Singapore Customs uses TradeNet electronic system. Singapore is a free port, virtually zero import duties (except alcohol, tobacco, motor vehicles, petroleum). GST applies to all imports. Goods under S$400 are GST-exempt.
One of the most efficient customs systems in the world. TradeNet processes declarations in minutes. As a free port, virtually all goods are duty-free. Only GST at 9% (raised from 8% in 2024) applies. Express and postal shipments clear rapidly.
Where to obtain documents
Certificate of origin: Singapore Customs or authorized bodies issue certificates. Preferential certificates under RCEP, CPTPP, ASEAN FTA, Singapore-US FTA, Singapore-EU FTA. Electronic certificates via EODES. Import licenses: Most goods imported freely. Controlled goods (pharmaceuticals, hazardous chemicals, media content, weapons, wildlife) require permits from respective agencies (HSA, NEA, IMDA).
Limited direct trade data between CY and SG. Most shipping routes go via major logistics hubs in Europe, UAE, or Singapore.
Key imports into SG: Electronics, petroleum, machinery, vehicles, chemicals, food products, pharmaceuticals. Key exports from CY: Pharmaceuticals, citrus fruits, potatoes, cement, clothing, ships. Singapore charges 9% GST on imports. The de minimis for GST is SGD 400 for imports via air/post. Singapore has one of the most efficient customs systems in the world - clearance often takes less than a day. SingPost handles last-mile delivery for postal shipments.
Based on shipper reports, delivery from CY to SG takes 7-21 days depending on the service. Express couriers (DHL, FedEx, UPS) offer faster delivery in 3-7 days. Accurate customs declarations are recommended to speed up the process.
